Hand-Feeding

I picked up a new method of eating this past week! Ever since I could remember, I've had some problem swallowing my food and water. Am I just piggish? Is the food too big for me to swallow? A little bit of both. Sometimes when I inhale my food and water I regurgitate. I personally think it's cool because it's like I'm recycling my own snacks but my people think it's gross. And remember that hacking problem that I mentioned a long time ago? My issue can lead to doggie pneumonia and even the end of my wonderful life! I'm only a year old or two, I can't cross the bridge quite yet! So we had to follow a few rules. Ew, rules.

1. Sit on somebody's lap so that they can hand-feed me.

2. Calm down! I get soooo excited when I know that food will be falling down my esophagus! My eyes do these crazy things but that's not good. I have to be relaxed and a "good boy" if I want to eat.

3. Stop teasing me!!

4. EAT! (my favorite step of them all!)

5. Then after I've eaten, I have to have lap time for a half an hour more so that I can digest and pass gas or something. *burp!* How ya doin'??

I've gotten used to it and I actually like it! At first I hated being bothered while eating. I'm so selfish with my food and that's the one thing I do NOT like to share! But that was part of the problem. I was labelled "food aggressive". I eat like there's no tomorrow and I've had digestive issues for awhile. I also didn't like the fact that I got a little bit of food to eat! But then I found out that I'd be fed 3 times a day in small portions, so I guess I don't mind after all! Not only do I regurgitate less, I've gotten better with my food aggression and I just seem to be a better behaved dog, so my people say!

I'm going to see if I can get more food...

  1. Oh Alfie!! You are so cute in your plaid blanket!! I'm not exactly food-agressive, but I get UBER (that's German) excited about it and dance around on my hind legs. Mom calls me circus dog!

  8. Your crazy-eye picture made us laugh! Hand-feeding is awesome, because it means you get more attention from the humans! I like to eat really fast too (I'm a lab, after all) but momma says that isn't good for me.

You look so cute in your blanket!

    your pal,
    Garth
